Beautiful Portraits

Beautiful weather today so rather than confine myself to my small studio. I been going doing some shoots in my garden and outside the front door. The light from the afternoon sun was harsh, so I used a diffuser to soften the light to create this beautiful image.

A Creative way to display your Portrait

I came up with this idea, just to put my portrait on an easel like a piece of art that had just been freshly painted.

But I spent some time thinking about the best place to display this work of art. My muse had bought some daffodils the day before and arranged them on our sideboard.

Then it hit me, I knew where I was going to display this beautiful piece of art. I placed it by the flowers that she had bought. This is a portrait that I will love and cherish for all time.

What creative ways do you have to display your portraits?

Memories

I’ve been on this earth for the last 50 odd years and during my time on earth, I don’t have any pictures of myself and my brothers when we were babies and young children. These are huge parts of my life that I am missing as I don’t have any photographs to remember them by. My partner’s parents knew the importance of having childhood photos, so I have little pangs of jealously as she thumbs through her albums wishing I had photos to remember my childhood by. I now have a daughter and I will take pictures of her everyday day that she is with me. I will document her life as she grows into a beautiful young woman and beyond, not only will she have digital images, she will also have prints to remember her childhood by. The day will come when she looks for photos of me and her and the photos she will find will be priceless.

What memories will your children find in the years to come?

When was the last time you were truly loved your photos of yourself?

Behind the scene

A behind the scene look from a photo shoot I did earlier this week. Riley totally owned this shoot from start to finish, even though his baby brother decided to photo bomb us, as Riley was posing for the shot a true professional.

Simply Riley-

A gorgeous portrait of Riley from the shoot.

When was the last time you loved a portrait of yourself?

At the last minute my folio building model let me down, due to illness, so instead of wasting day, I did the shoot with my new HUMA Yasmin.

This is from Felix’s lighting series. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made. This is Felix’s signature lighting, I’ve learnt so much about lighting since I purchased this series. And I used to fear using strobes.

I bounced the strobe from the back against a white curtain for the fill light and I had my Octobox feathering from the left to achieve this painterly look.

Makeup was done by Yasmin.

So here’s a question for all you beautiful people.

When was the last time you loved a portrait of yourself?

Finding the light 2

A behind the scenes look at how I achieved these photos. The beauty has many layers of diffusion because the strobe would be to bright on the model, it’s also feathered away from the model, so that I get that beautiful soft light from the edge of the beauty dish and also not get any hotspots on the model. The reflector to the left is just to soften the shadows on the model. A self portrait with my daughter.
